Code: 5WSC00

Two-component gloss polyester varnish with excellent flowing properties for application by brush or spray on wooden boats. Formulated with UV filters to provide a greater resistance and duration in the marine environment. Particularly recommended as a non-yellowing brilliant finish on wooden boats. SPACE CLEAR 3/1 is the latest developped product in our Space Top line.

SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE

New or restored bare Wood.
 - In order to obtain “closed-pore” smooth surface, apply two coats of POLIGLASS or SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish diluted up to 50-100% (according to wood absorption). If the pores on the wood is coarse, a third coat, less diluted, may be required. Let dry for 12-16 hours, rub down with fine abrasive-paper and apply 2-3 coats of SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish allowing the required waiting time between coats.
- On the other hand, if a surface with “open-pore” is desired, apply a single coat of POLIGLASS or SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish thinned 50-100%, (according wood absorption). Let dry for 12-16 hours, rub down with fine abrasive-paper and apply 2-3 coats of SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish allowing the required waiting time between coats.

Previously Varnished Wood. Sandpaper the old varnish thoroughly and remove dust. If the old paint system was made with two-component polyurethane varnish, just overcoat with 2-3 coats of SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish allowing 24 hours between coats. If the old paint system is unknown it is recommended to test the new varnish on a small area to check if SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish is compatible with the old varnish and to make sure that the old coating is still in sound condition and does not soften when overcoated; if there will be no inconvenient apply 2-3 coats of SPACE CLEAR 3/1 NEW varnish. In the case of loose, powdery or non-compatible old varnish, it is recommended that the old varnish should be stripped completely down to bare wood with a paint-remover or by scraping and sandpapering. Once back to bare wood follow the recommended coating system as indicated above for new wood.
* Note: Recoat time after a minimum waiting period of 6-8 hours can only be of 2 coats (1+1), after which it is recommended to allow at least 24 hours before applying further coats of varnish. This is because the product (containing slow drying solvents) in order to provide an even flowing of the varnish film needs more time than conventional products to fully evaporate.
